Book of the Month – Cantona: The Rebel Who Would Be King by Philippe Auclair – Chapter One – I Am The King! I Am The King!

The House hewn of the grandfather’s hands, on the rocky hill of dubious history; a traitorous affection for Cruyff’s Ajax; a getaway to a hut on the Mediterranean with Jacques Cousteau.

A special youth club, a special school, a special teacher, all for a special boy.

The lack of discipline, earned with the persuasion of a smile; maturity and impetuosity mirror each other in equal measure. Disappointment met with a knowing, unspoken nod.

Marseille overlooks, but the district recognizes. A chance to shine; taken and noticed. The choice down to two – vivacious Nice or sleepy Auxerre; the decision swayed by the equipping of a good-hearted nature.

The longer road is taken, from the South to the North, a daring selection; the sunnier comforts are overlooked, for the best decision.

A side-quest into the heart of the art; crevé – the passion and drive to create.
