First Person View – What’s Going On?

    Since Toronto finally has some time off – and I can relax for a moment, if only a moment – I’ll be taking the next week or so to address some of the changes that have come about over the past month or so.

    There exists a graveyard of pieces littering my unfinished folder and desktop, thoughts on the departures of Julian de Guzman, Joao Plata, and Nick Soolsma, the transition from Aron Winter to Paul Mariner, the wonders of Terry Dunfield’s goal, a different view on the potential of a Canadian World Cup, and a few random others swirling around.

    Hopefully I will get around to them all with nearly ten full days between TFC matches.
   
    So keep an eye out.

    News of three Toronto FC players having been arrested following an evening out on the town in Houston has been trickling out all day.

    Also, be sure to check out this post on the nascent rivalry between the two clubs at SB Nation's FMF State of Mind by Eben Lehman, who was kind enough to help me stumble though my ignorance of Mexican football in previewing these two matches.

    He makes a very salient point on the growth of the competition that is very encouraging.

    Regardless of how Wednesday goes, I can't wait until Santos Laguna returns to Toronto; the Champions League, a competition that has struggled for meaning, has finally grown some hair on its chest.

Upon First Glance – Oh, What a Night! Toronto FC v Santos Post-Match Reaction

    I’ll leave much of the analysis to next week’s preview of the second leg, but for now let’s take a closer look at some of the less-tangible aspects of the match played out last night.

Upon First Glance – Columbus Crew v Toronto FC

    A night of firsts as Toronto FC picked up their first road win of the season, a first ever over Columbus, and clinched the Trillium Cup for the first time. An entertaining 2-4 win was nerve-wracking at times, but enjoyable in the end.

    The single MLS match this midweek saw the two Canadian teams do take to the field in their first of two matches in four days. Toronto was desperate to avenge their opening day loss in Vancouver, while the Whitecaps were looking to record their first ever MLS road victory.
