Book of the Month – When Friday Comes Football in the War Zone by James Montague – Chapter Twelve – Jordan

Jordan, unique amongst its neighbours; a place to let your hair down, be whomever you want to be. Perfectly timed for a fierce title decider; between the home side and that of the refugees.

The Palestinian question; in the process of being answered; assimilation or separation.

The perfect cap to the season spoilt by the penultimate match; a stadium packed with away support; a meaningless game, played as such, but a chance to celebrate nevertheless.

Shredder-like protectively clad forces patrol the ground; heavy handed tactics come the end. A fortunate ride back to town; singing all the way.
